Moving Onward

Blog for OMST       Pam Parziale     April 7, 2025                2 minute read

The geese are migrating north. I pass by the garden gate as the deep throated honking gives me pause. I always count geese because they fly in pairs, mate for life, and I want to be reassured. The lead drops back, another takes its place as in some apocryphal agreement of shared space.

The writers of the Over the Mountain Studio Tour Blog have shared their insights into the working habits of a diverse community of artists and artisans for more than 8 years. Now Linda Case and Tara Bell pass pens and paper to new observers. So many times, their moments of insight into the quixotic mind or temperament of a tour member stop me short. I feel a buzz of delight at some new bit of knowledge about someone’s work I foolishly thought I understood and now have to re-think.

Potter M.C. Richards describes “acuteness of observation” in her book Centering. This phrase captures the moments of insight that Tara and Linda have generously shared with hundreds of us who anticipate reading the Tour Blog.

The geese have disappeared into the red sky pulled by an invisible thread northward. The sun is setting, light falls over the Appalachians. Tomorrow will be a good day. I am planning to visit a tour member in anticipation of writing a new Blog post. Thank you, Linda and Tara, for being our guides for dozens of Studio Tour postings over many years.

Pam, I’m so glad you’re sharing in this space. Your reflection reaches deep and inspires me to gratitude.
