Pang Tubhirun
Photographer
Pang Tubhirun is a Digital and Wet Plate Collodion Photographer. You can often find her behind
the camera, where she feels most at home.
Her journey into photography began as a self-taught enthusiast, driven by curiosity and a
passion for the human story and documenting the world around her. What started as a personal
creative pursuit soon evolved into a dedicated career path, leading her to deepen her
knowledge at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. There, she refined
her documentary approach and developed a stronger understanding of visual narrative, ethics,
and the power of photography to preserve stories.
Her path eventually took her to Paw Paw, West Virginia, where she participated in tintype
workshops under the guidance of her mentor, Lisa Elmaleh. Immersing herself in one of
photography’s earliest processes, she gained a deeper appreciation for the medium’s history,
craftsmanship, and the slower pace compared to digital photography. The experience further
shaped her artistic perspective and ignited her love for the hands-on process that creates one of
a kind images.
Pang immigrated to the United States from Thailand when she was eight years old and is a
recently naturalized United States citizen. She creates tintypes on location and at her studio,
Skull City Studio, in her hometown, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The studio also functions as
a gallery, community gathering place, and arts education space. When she’s not documenting
weddings, making tintypes, or running a community space, she enjoys spending time in her
backyard micro-farm with her family, a lively crew of 19 chickens, a bunny, two dogs, and a cat.
