Influenced by the country setting of her home in West Virginia,Rebecca’scanvasesdepict scenes of peace and charm. She says of herwork,“I have a few different approaches when I start my paintings.Sometimes I start with a layer of gesso to which I add texture before itdries. Other pieces start as a design of shapes in neutral tones. In bothcases, the second step is to paint an additional, translucent layer whichallows either the texture or the shapes to show through. I let thesefeatures suggest details that I enhance and develop into a composition. The result usually refers to a landscape of sorts, populated with whatI’ve come to see as my iconography of architectural and organicsymbols.”
