What's New at the 30th Studio Tour?

Well actually, a whole lot.

We’ve added a new stop! Stop 4 has been added at Cool Spring Preserve, the Potomac Audubon nature center. You’ll see the work of Tara Bell (dreamy pastels), Linda Case (mixed media jewelry and paintings) and Susan Shildmyer (innovative free form knitting) in this soaring space. You can even walk the trails while you’re visiting.

There are new makers! We’ve invited some highly talented young emerging artists to be on the tour this year. Stop 6 will have the 3 Awesome Art Girls showing their work. They are Melody, Abby and Kate mentored by artist Beth Brent for many years. Stop 9 will host Bolivar’s award-winning Abby Metzgar and her mixed media artwork. Our emerging artist program is just one of our educational outreaches that support local art education.

There’s a whole new way to enter for a door prize! There will be 24 artist-donated prizes to be exact. Our fiendish organizers have devised a fun new program to make it easy for you to enter your contact info only one time no matter how many stops you visit. You’ll receive a Passport to be stamped at each stop that will enter you for the door prizes Just be sure to drop the Passport off at your last stop because it’s your entry for a door prize.

There will also be a Grand Prize for the visitor who goes to the most stops! This will be drawn from however many tied entries we have.

There’s exciting new work from our artists! Here’s just a sample. At stop 8, check out Tim Wohleber’s awesome new live edge wooden frames. Watch for weaver Diane Myers’ hand-woven place mats at Stop1. Folks have been asking her for them for years and now she’ll have some. Potter Lisa Kovatch (Stop 2) has a wonderful new line of slipware – inspired by 18th and 19th century early American pottery but with her own unique design twist. Watch for Roselyn Mendez’ ever-evolving hand forged metal jewelry at Stop 8. How she combines feathery flowers and foliage with metal is magic. Artist Fran Brolle (Stop 3) has added painted glass hangings to her wonderful collection of jewelry and dichroic glass. And that is only a small taste of all the new and innovative work you will see.

So what does it cost to go to this Art Extravaganza? Nothing! Mark your calendar for November 09 and 10 between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm. Go to our website at www.overthemountainstudiotour.com for stop information and a map. We can’t wait to welcome you!

PS: The wonderful animal carvings in the photo are by Nancy Streeter who will be at Stop 7.
